Local motorists are having to take a detour today as Public Works crews replace a broken sewer line on Second Street East.
The street is expected to remain closed between Portage and Mowat avenues for the rest of the day.
A town employee said the problem was caused by tree roots infiltrating the old tile pipe through a number of joints. He also said the problem is not unusual, and that hundreds of such repairs have been made over the years.
The new pipe is a single piece of plastic tubing that should be immune to such problems in the future.
