Last year, the weather put a damper on Hallowe’en. This year, it’s the calendar.
The “Scott Street Scare” will not be held this year because the annual candy-fest falls on a Sunday.
Organizer Sandra McNay noted most businesses in the downtown area are not open on Sundays, but she stressed this is not a permanent cancellation.
“It will be back next year,” she pledged.
Kids still will be able to satisfy their candy cravings at Doug Kitowski Trucking’s “spooky trailer,” which will be set up in the parking lot at McDonald’s again this year.
“It’s starts at 5 p.m. and goes until there’s no more kids,” noted organizer Kim Miller.
Last year, the turnout at the trailer was poor due to the cold and freezing rain but Miller has high hopes for this year.
“Hopefully we’ll get close to 1,000 kids this year. That’s what we’re shooting for,” she said.
Last year, the folks at Kitowski Trucking made a few changes to the trailer, including making pieces out of plywood.
“I think the kids really enjoyed it,” Miller said, adding they likely will add a few new things this year, as well.
“I’m still working on it,” she remarked.
People also are invited to donate candy, to help pass out candy to the kids that evening, or to help decorate the trailer during the day.
“We have lots of fun doing the decorating,” Miller said.
Miller added they also will need volunteers to help bag the candy, but the date and time won’t be set until mid-October.
Anyone interested in helping out is invited to call Miller either at home (274-2804) or at Kitowski Trucking (274-5000).
