Local 9-1-1 dispatcher may switch

It’s possible Fort Frances and other district municipalities may leave Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. as their 9-1-1 dispatch provider in the future.
“There is a report into council right now recommending looking at another service provider,” said Fort Frances Fire Chief Steve Richardson, who chairs the 9-1-1 Partners board.
He noted he would wait until Fort Frances town council received the report at its Oct. 25 meeting before saying anything else.
But Chief Richardson indicated the recommendation was a matter of determining a more cost-effective means by which residents can make 9-1-1 calls and subsequently have them re-routed to either the police, fire, or ambulance services.
“If there’s a change in providers, people won’t see a difference in service,” he stressed.
Currently, 9-1-1 calls by district residents in organized areas, as well as in Halkirk and Couchiching, Northwest Bay, and Manitou Rapids First Nations, go to Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc., which then redirects them to the appropriate emergency service.
