The new Canadian Tire store here was the place to be this morning as it marked its official grand opening with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony, bargains galore, and lots of free stuff.
Every customer who came through the door was given a tape measure, a sample of laundry detergent, a cleaning pad, and a Tupperware container. But the bargains didn’t stop there.
Everywhere, items were marked down—some to ridiculously low prices—as owner/manager Angus McDonald and Don Riddell, western region vice-president for dealer operations, greeted customers by the hundreds.
There also were several raffles for a number of brand-name products.
B.93 FM sports director Mike Freeman also was on hand to give away free rod-and-reel combos to those who were listening for the right thing to say when they walked in.
Some customers took advantage of the occasion to get a jump on their Christmas shopping while others stocked up on the usual items found at Canadian Tire.
The store’s grand opening celebration will continue through Sunday.
Tomorrow, for instance, a free DeWalt palm sander will be given to the first 20 customers who purchase any DeWalt power tool.
On Saturday, an IAMS pet expert will be on hand from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. to pass along helpful tips and advice, then customers can jump into the “money” machine from 4-6 p.m. to see what they can catch.
And Bubbles the Clown will be there both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Canadian Tire also is offering a free bus to its new store from Rainy River and Big Island, Big Grassy, and Manitou Rapids First Nations.
