Time is running out to nominate someone as the town’s 2004 “Citizen of the Year”—the selection committee is asking the public to get those names submitted by 4 p.m. this Friday (Oct. 29).
“I’ve only got four or five as of today. Not a lot,” town administrative assistant Loreen Holt said yesterday.
“But I’m hoping to see more come in,” she added, noting that seeing a flood of nominations come in on the final day isn’t unusual.
Last year, the selection committee had 16 nominations to choose from, some of which were duplicates of the same person(s).
Nomination forms are available at the information desk at the Civic Centre. Anyone who has done an outstanding job for the community in any way is eligible for the award.
The only stipulation is that the recipient be a resident of the Town of Fort Frances and that the nominee not presently hold elected office.
Bill Gushulak (“Citizen of the Year 2000”) and Mark Kowalchuk (“Citizen of the Year 1994”) make up the selection committee, along with Mayor Dan Onichuk and Coun. Rick Wiedenhoeft.
Last year’s winner was John Dutton.
The “Citizen of the Year” will be formally honoured at the town’s annual appreciation banquet Nov. 19 at La Place Rendez-Vous, and also likely will take part in the Santa Claus parade Nov. 27.
The identities of the nominees will not be revealed. Only the winner will be publicly announced.
For more information, call Gushulak (274-3891) or Kowalchuk (274-9118).
