The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the upcoming election of the executive and board of directors.
Members will be voting for five members of the executive, and nine directors.
Most current elected members are seeking re-election, Dawn Booth, Chamber manager said.
“Each year, everybody has to be re-elected,” she noted.
Booth said there will be three vacancies to fill, and she has already received some calls from people who are interested.
Any Chamber member is eligible to sit on the board of directors.
The election will take place at the general meeting on Nov. 23 at the Rainy Lake Hotel.
Booth said there also will be some Chamber business to take care of, as well as a guest speaker.
There is no deadline for nominations.
“We’ll call nominations from the floor that day,” she said.
The responsibilities of the board of directors include helping to formulate and review various policies, proposed actions, programs, and projects so that the best interests of the Chamber and the community can be accomplished through concerted action.
The current board consists of Ala Dulas (B93-FM), Cathy Emes (Envision North) Gus MacDonnell (IQON Financial), Jon Evans (BDO Dunwoody), John Cummings (Norfab Building Components), Cheryl McCallum (Cheryl’s Office on Wheels), Kelly Spicer (Robin’s Donuts), Debbie Williamson (Fort Frances Clinic Dispensary), and Karri Tougas of Northland Basics.
The Chamber’s executive includes president Alan Tibbetts, first vice-president Gary Rogozinski, second vice-president Christine Denby, and treasurer Brian Kahler. The position of past president is vacant.
Appointees to the board are Mayor Dan Onichuk (Town of Fort Frances), Larry Syrovy (BIA), Geoff Gillon and Crystal Godbout (Rainy River Future Development Corp.), and Christine Jourdain (Couchiching First Nation), with Tannis Drysdale and Jane Gillon (Ministry of Northern Development and Mines) being ex officio members.
