Local residents will have a chance to brighten a child’s Christmas again this year with Family and Children’s Services “Adopt an Angel” program.
The program was launched last year with great success, providing gifts to children in foster care across the district.
FACS has put up a Christmas tree hung with paper angel ornaments near the front doors inside Wal-Mart.
Each paper angel has the name of a child, his or her age, and a preferred gift written on it.
Shoppers are invited to take an angel from the tree and buy a Christmas gift for the child it represents. The gifts can be left at Wal-Mart, where they will be collected by staff from FACS and distributed to the children.
There are currently 70 children in foster care in the Rainy River District, and another 15 with voluntary services.
Last year’s “Adopt an Angel” was a great success, with all angels being adopted within two weeks.
