A former Fort Frances resident is organizing the first-annual “Art Walk”—an event designed to showcase the talents of local artists from both sides of the border.
Fourteen artists from as close by as Fort Frances and Ranier, and from as far away as Tucson, Ariz., will have their works on display and available for sale tonight and tomorrow at Woody’s in Ranier.
“It’s going to be fun. I’m looking forward to it,” said Angela Davis, who organized the event. Davis grew up in Fort Frances but now lives in Minnesota, where she runs her handbag company, She’s a Sheila.
Davis’ handmade bags, as well as jewellery, candles, glass art, T-shirts, paintings, and sculptures, will be available.
Some of the local artists whose works will be featured are Kate Woods, Jennifer Crain, Cher Pruys, Eric Keast, and Kathie Armstrong.
Davis said a friend of hers had held a similar event in years past, but they decided to make it a larger event and open it up to other artists.
If the “Art Walk” is successful, Davis said she will consider doing it again next year, but she’s not sure what effect the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday will have on the sale.
“It could work for us or against us. We’ll just have to see. But if this goes well, we’ll definitely do it again,” she remarked.
The “Art Walk” will run today from 6-10 p.m. and again tomorrow from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is free.
