Meetings of the Fort Frances Horticultural Society are held the fourth Monday of the month beginning in January and ending in October. The time is 7 p.m. at the CN station.
We continue to maintain and expand the flower beds at the library and at Rainycrest Home for the Aged.
This year, we started a new project along with the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau: a new flower bed was built and planted around the “Good Neighbours” sign.
As well, plans are in place to expand the flower bed at the old CN station.
This year also saw financial support given to the newly-formed “Communities in Bloom” for the enhancement of Fort Frances.
Although public plantings are important to our club, we also have an educational and social component. Workshops on dahlias, gardening concerns, and new plants for spring were featured.
For the public’s enjoyment, we displayed seasonal flowers in the BIA window, and held a plant sale as well as a beautiful flower show.
Members enjoyed a picnic, silent auction, potluck supper, plant exchanges, and samples of the fruits of our harvests.
New and old members are always welcome, so we extend an invitation to you to watch for announcements of the start of our new year.
