At its first regular meeting of the new year tonight, the Northwest Catholic District School Board will review a report of the various activities going on in its school to help the victims of the recent tsunami in South Asia.
According to the report, “teachers have discussed this tragedy with their students and have provided answers to their questions.”
The students also have been remembering the victims of the tsunami in their class prayers, and school masses have been said for the victims and their families.
One school held a pancake breakfast, with proceeds going to the disaster victims, while another held a daily sock hop for one week and a Friday “Pennies for Compassion” fundraiser, raising a total of $2,425.
Another of the board’s five elementary schools held a spaghetti supper that raised more than $700.
Also at tonight’s meeting, the board will:
•hear a verbal update on secondary Catholic education;
•review board committee appointments for 2005; and,
•review its revised budget estimates for the 2004-05 school year.
