Wedding congratulations are in order

Congratulations to Andrea “Annie” Lafleur and Travis Kennett, who were wed Sunday, Jan. 16 in the Dominican Republic.
Attending the wedding were Annie’s parents, Patti and Mark Lafleur, and her brother and sister, Jeff and Kim, as well as Jeff’s girlfriend from southern Ontario.
Travis’ mother, Tammy, attended with Brian Hagarty while his sister, Tana, flew to the wedding from New Zealand. Darcy Robson also took part in this special event.
Congratulations to the newlyweds from your community of friends and family.

About 40 students participated in the dance-a-thon at Crossroads School on Saturday, with monies raised to go to the International Red Cross to assist the victims of the Boxing Day tsunami in South Asia.
When I stopped by the school Saturday, the kids already had been dancing for seven-and-a-half hours. they still had lots of energy, though the chaperones felt they were starting to show signs of “slowing down.”
Thanks to all the kids who showed up to help out people far less fortunate than we are in Rainy River District.

Local 4-H leaders will hold their annual meeting next Friday (Feb. 4) at 7 p.m. at the Gast Haus in Rainy River.
A reminder the annual 4-H awards banquet is slated for Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at the Millennium Hall in Stratton.
Confirmation of your attendance is required by Feb. 25. You can do so by contacting Kim-Jo Bliss.

Bob and Emma McLean won the 500 portion of the annual Betty Kellar Memorial card tournament held Saturday at the Emo Legion. The low went to Val Hubida and Reese (last name unknown).
Meanwhile, the cribbage portion of the tournament was captured by Sirii Gallinger and Marion Larson, with the low going to Don Kellar and Tamara Chambers.

Weekly cribbage winners at the Emo Legion last Wednesday were Gerald and Lorraine Bullied, with the low going to Rene and Dennis Kivell. Pat Hyatt took home the draw prize.

The Emo Legion will host a fish fry this Saturday (Jan. 29) from 4-7 p.m. Take-outs should be called in before 4 p.m. at 482-2250.

Sympathy is extended to Jackie Grynol and Joan Fenner in the passing of their husband and father, Nick. I’ll never forget many an enjoyable meal with Nick and Jackie.
He was a kind, sincere gentleman who makde the world a better place.

Robin’s 2¢:
A man staggered home one evening, clearly the worse for wear. Shoes in hand to avoid waking his wife, he tiptoed up the stairs leading to their bedroom, but he misjudged a step and fell.
He landed heavily on his rump, breaking a whisky bottle in each back pocket. Managing to suppress a yelp, the man sprang up and examined his lacerated and bleeding cheeks in a nearby mirror.
Then, finding a box of bandages, he proceeded to patch himself up before making his way to bed.
The next morning, he awoke in searing pain and noticed his wife staring at him from across the room. “You were drunk last night,” she said.
“Now, hon,” he said meekly. “Why would you say such a thing?”
“Well,” she said, “It could be the open front door or the glass at the bottom of the stairs, but mostly it’s all those band-aids stuck on the downstairs mirror!”
