A Sioux Narrows man has been fined and received a temporary hunting ban as a result of an illegal deer hunting offence.
Christopher Frenette was convicted under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and fined $800 for failing to immediately attach a game seal to a harvested animal at the kill site.
He also is prohibited from hunting in Ontario for one year.
Court heard that on Dec. 1, conservation officers stopped Frenette on Maybrun Road in the Sioux Narrows area.
Frenette had a white-tailed fawn in the rack of the snowmobile he was operating.
Although Frenette had a valid antlered/anterless game seal for the area in which he shot it, he had not attached it to the deer.
The deer was seized and forfeited to the Crown.
Frenette’s firearm will be returned once his fine is paid.
Justice of the Peace Roger McCraw heard the case Jan. 11 in Kenora.
The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds hunters that when deer hunting alone, you must securely attach the game seal to the animal immediately after the kill and before transporting it.
The day, time, and month of the kill must be notched on the game seal.
