Parking on First Street changed

There will be changes to parking on the 200 block of First Street East after council amended Traffic Bylaw 10/03 at its regular meeting Monday night.
The changes include:
•the elimination of calendar parking on the 200 block of First Street East;
•24-hour parking along the north side only (and thus the elimination of parking on the south side of the 200 block of First Street East); and
•the provision of one curbside handicap accessible parking spot at the pedestrian ramp/sidewalk leading into Family and Children’s Services at 240 First St. E.
These changes came about after both Family and Children’s Services and the developers of the former Fort Frances High School wrote letters to the town back in January complaining about the current parking situation there.
The Planning and Development executive committee then met with stakeholders last month and got their input on the matter before making the amendments noted above.
