Town council passed a motion Monday night approving Mayor Dan Onichuk give up positions on three boards he currently sits on and join a new one.
“I had placed myself on about all the boards associated with, and at arm’s-length from, the town,” the mayor noted. “In the last year-and-a-half, I’ve felt my way around fairly well and am now focusing on specific projects.”
Mayor Onichuk is stepping down from the Polices Services Board, Business Improvement Association board, and Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board.
His terms on those boards will be finished up by Couns. Rick Wiedenhoeft, Todd Hamilton, and Tannis Drysdale, respectively.
Mayor Onichuk, in turn, will take CAO Mark McCaig’s seat on the Fort Frances Power Corp.’s board of directors. McCaig has not been in that position since October.
All of the moves were made after discussing them with council, Mayor Onichuk noted Monday night.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, council:
•agreed to water and fertilize all flowers donated by the Chamber of Commerce and BIA this summer (this is at a cost of $6,157.03, which comes our of the Parks General Account);
•approved a donation of $100 to the Rainy River District Music Festival Association as recommended by the Administration and Finance executive committee;
•permitted Bob Dobransky to get a year interest-free for his tenant’s overdue water and sewer bill to be paid in full;
•amended an agreement with the Electrical Safety Authority to include the sewage treatment plant among town facilities covered under the authority;
•received the January, 2005 drinking water systems monthly report, as well as the 2004 year-end reports for both the water treatment plant and airport terminal building well supply; and
