Club learns about chocolate

Taylor Vlotaros

The Pine River 4-H Club just completed its “Chocolate” project.
Club members are Taylor Vlotaros, Jordan, Kurt, and Morgan Desserre, Evan Govier, and Elijah and Rebecca Zimmerman, with Kim Desserre and Susan Irvine being the club leaders.
At our first meeting, held Dec. 21, we talked about kitchen rules. Next we practised proper measuring and made two different kinds of cookies.
At our second meeting Dec. 28, we made four different kinds of brownies to compare.
We also tasted different kinds of chocolate, like 90 percent Cacao, Chili Chocolate, and Milk Chocolate, and learned about chocolate in main courses.
We then made Bean Mole and Ham Mole.
The third meeting, held Jan. 8, was our candy-making meeting, where we made chocolate-covered pretzels, marshmallows, and cherries.
We also made turtles and pretzel turtles.
And at our fourth meeting, held Jan. 15, we played “Chocolate Jeopardy” and made two different cakes.
Our Achievement Activity is to have a chocolate tasting at the 4-H awards night on March 4.
I liked this project because it is a fun way to learn.
