New event added to Emo Walleye Classic

So, you think you have what it takes to be a singing star?
If so, you’ll have a chance to strut your stuff at the fourth-annual Emo Walleye Classic later this spring.
The “Emo Walleydol” is a vocal competition open to local performers aged 16 and over that will take place during the annual tournament May 27-28.
Fifteen entrants will be vying for the $500 top prize, with the winner being chosen by the crowd during the final weigh-in.
The event will take place in two parts. On the Friday (May 27), all 15 competitors will perform before a panel of celebrity judges, who will select the three finalists for Saturday’s showdown.
Those three then will be judged by the crowd on the Saturday (May 28), with the winner taking home $500. The first runner-up will receive $100 and the second $50.
The entry fee is $20 and is not refundable, but it does include a special-edition “Emo Walleydol” T-shirt. Entrants can sign up at The Corner Closet in Emo on a first-come, first-served basis.
Here’s how the contest will work.
Each competitor must choose two songs from the list provided by Yowza Music Services. One is to be performed on the Friday night while the three finalists then will perform their second selection on the Saturday after the weigh-in but before the raffle draws.
All three will perform in succession in that time slot.
The spectators then will vote on the winner via ballots, which will be included with the purchase of a wristband for entry to the dance later on.
Children also may purchase a ballot for $2, but that does not allow them entry to the dance, which is an age-of-majority event.
The votes will be tallied by a subcommittee of three EWC committee members and the winner announced before the final draw of the EWC raffle. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by a coin toss.
Entrants must reside in Rainy River District to be eligible to compete.
In addition, there will be a karaoke competition on the Saturday for children aged nine-15.
