Annual spring ary show opens at gallery More artwork to arrive later this week

“Cup and Dish” is the theme of the Fine Line Art Gallery’s annual spring exhibit, which opened there yesterday.
While the public is welcome to drop by the gallery (529 Mowat Ave.) right now, Fine Line co-op member Linda Lovisa noted yesterday that organizers still are waiting for some of the art to come in and so the exhibit won’t be “complete” until later this week.
Lovisa said organizers are expecting about 40 entries in all, and she expects to see a wide variety of interesting interpretations of the theme.
The work already on display there ranges from watercolours and oils to intricate beadwork—all following the theme “Cup and Dish.”
As in past years, a “Music in the Gallery” event, featuring both music and refreshments, is being planned for the evening of Friday, May 13 to wrap up the “Cup ’n Dish” show, noted Lovisa.
An ensemble of seven musicians from the Borderland Community Orchestra has been lined up to play that evening.
Tickets for that event, which starts at 7 p.m., will be on sale at the Fine Line Art Gallery starting this Friday. Cost is $10.
The Fine Line Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.
More than 50 works of art—all done in shades of blue, for the most part—were submitted for the “Out of the Blues” spring show last year. These were done not only by members of the Fine Line co-op, but artists from elsewhere in the region and western Canada.
The 2003 spring art show, entitled “Wild ’n Woolly,” saw everything from a diorama featuring bungee-jumping sheep to wool sweaters to a painting of woolly mammoths submitted.
The inaugural show in 2002 featured works revolving around the theme “Shade of Yellow.”
Both those shows attracted about 40 entries each.
Following the pattern of a colour-themed show one year and a non-colour one the next, the 2006 spring art show will be based on the colour red.
