The St. John’s University Red Storm golf team, of which Fort Frances resident Christin Thomson is a member, qualified for the Big East Championships that started today at the Warren Golf Club in Notre Dame.
This is Thomson’s third season with the St. John’s (New York) women’s golf team and she has had a successful season thus far.
She tied for 11th at the Dartmouth Invitational, and has finished tied for seventh at the Mount Holyoke Invitational.
Last season, she finished second on the Red Storm in stroke average at 80.80 and average strokes off the lead with 5.3. She got a ninth-place finish at the Rutgers Invitational, tied for 10th at the Dartmouth Invitational and 11th-place at the Northwood Invitational.
Thomson also tied for eighth at the Georgetown Classic, finished second at the Boston College Invitational and her best finish was a first placing at the Hofstra Invitational, which helped the Red Storm to their first ever team win (this year they have had four team wins).
St. John’s is seeded second in the four-team tournament on the women’s side (Notre Dame is seeded first, Georgetown third and Boston College fourth) and it is the first time the Red Storm have made an appearance at the Big East championships, which has been won by the Fighting Irish women the past two years.
The championships will conclude Sunday.
