Desjardins wins NWOSSAA gold Earns trip to all-Ontarios next month

Muskie Simone Desjardins won the gold medal in the senior girls’ singles division at the NWOSSAA badminton championships Wednesday in Manitouwadge to qualify for the all-Ontarios.
This will be Desjardins’ fourth trip to OFSAA, which will take place May 5-7 in the Toronto area.
The 18-year-old qualified twice before in the singles division and once in doubles.
Muskie Sandi Elliot, 15, also brought home a medal from Manitouwadge, earning silver in the junior girls’ singles division. But since there is no OFSAA for junior players, her season has come to an end.
Justin Enge, 17, and Natalie Desjardins, 16, finished in fourth place in the senior mixed doubles division at Manitouwadge on Wednesday, which was a disappointing finish for them since they gone undefeated (5-0) at the NorWOSSA showdown here last week.
Rounding out the Muskie field at NWOSSAA was Tim Desjardins, 15, who took fourth place in the junior boys’ singles division.
