Bergland will host local municipal leaders this Saturday (Jan. 28) in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Rainy River District Municipal Association.
Delegates from as far away as Atikokan will gather at the Bergland Hall to discuss issues that affect communities across the district.
The day will begin with a business section that will see leaders discuss and endorse resolutions that, once passed, will be sent to the Northern Ontario Municipal Association’s annual meeting.
(RRDMA secretary Anna Boily had not completed the list of resolutions to be discussed prior to press time).
Another item on the agenda for the business meeting is the cost apportionment for the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board.
This is the umbrella organization that oversees social services in the district as well as other services like land ambulance. Each municipality pays a portion of the costs to the DSSAB for the services.
Boily said Saturday’s meeting will see them discuss how the apportionment is calculated.
Other topics of discussion at the business meeting will include the Fort Frances Clinic sale, the NOMA levy payment, and election of new officers.
After the business meeting, several speakers will address the delegates throughout the rest of the day.
They include Dr. Pete Sarsfield (Northwestern Health Unit), Donna Dittaro (DSSAB), Jeanette Cawston (“Best Start”), Geoff Gillon (Rainy River Future Development Corp.), Jane Gillon (Ministry of Northern Development and Mines), and Grace Silander (Rainy River Valley Safety Coalition).
Rounding out the scheduled speakers are Tim Gauthier (Ainsworth), Tannis Drysdale (Drysdale Consulting), Chantelle Bryson (Buset and Partners), local MP Ken Boshcoff, and Donna Anderson (POA co-ordinator).
All will be given about 20 minutes to give a presentation, and may take questions from the delegates if time permits.
