More books are needed for the local Alzheimer Society’s second-annual book sale which starts Thursday at Revco Carpet (950 Fifth St. W.)
Anyone looking to donate books for the sale can drop them off at Revco during regular business hours—and even after the sale begins (no encyclopedias please).
For those who cannot get out of the house to deliver their books themselves, they can call Anna McNay at 274-9268. If she’s not home, leave a message.
The book sale will take place this Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and again Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
The public can drop by the store, fill a bag with books, and then make a donation to the Alzheimer Society.
Last year’s book sale here raised $1,101.73.
Proceeds from the book sale will go towards a special wheelchair for Rainycrest Home for the Aged here. It’s designed for Alzheimer patients who have problems with choking when eating or drinking.
This wheelchair costs $5,000.
In related news, the fundraising totals for the Alzheimer Society’s inaugural “Chef’s Charitable Dinner” held here Jan. 22 are in.
The event raised $4,417, which organizer Margaret Schonewille said last Friday was a notable amount, especially for a first time around.
Likewise, a roast beef dinner at the Rainy River Legion on Jan. 21 brought in $1,965—$1,500 in dinner tickets sales and penny auction raffles and $465 from the very successful “Chairs for Charity” raffle.
And as reported in last week’s Times, the “Penny for your thoughts” weigh-in here Jan. 20-21 saw a total of $282 pounds of pennies donated.
Pennies still are being accepted at the Super 8 Motel here until the end of today.
