Michel Maillé, Abitibi-Consolidated’s vice-president of Operations, Commercial Printing Papers, announced Tuesday a regional manager has been named for Northwestern Ontario.
Doug Murray, who most recently has been general manager at Abitibi’s pulp and paper mill in Iroquois Falls, will be “working closely with the Fort Frances and Fort William mill managers to achieve operational objectives, as well as identifying and implementing a long-term viable solution for both divisions,” according to a company press release.
He also will “work with governments, communities, and key stakeholders to optimize the value generate by the two operations,” it added.
“The regionalization is the combination of our expertise in the region, focusing simultaneously on operations and solving the issues the mills are facing,” Alain Grandmont, senior vice-president, Commercial Printing Papers, said in the press release.
“We are convinced that we will be able to reduce costs and create synergies, sharing best practices to improve both operations and increase profitability,” he added.
Fort Frances mill manager John Harrison and Fort William mill manager Clark Johnson will continue to the lead their respective operations, working closely with employees and unions to deliver continuous improvement.
In related news, Peter Kibzey will take on the challenge of Woodlands regional manager, responsible for the fibre supply of the two mills.
Harrison, Clark, and Kibzey all will report to Murray.
