The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce currently is seeking input from the local business community on the proposed Bylaw #57/05—a new bylaw to licence and regulate business, taxis, and trades within town limits.
“As the ‘voice of business’ for the Fort Frances area, we applaud the Town of Fort Frances for considering a new bylaw to licence and regulate businesses within the municipality and provide an opportunity for input,” Chamber president Gary Rogozinski said in a press release issued last week.
“The Chamber has carefully reviewed both the original proposed bylaw and the second draft released Jan. 20, 2006,” he added. “A summary has been put together and distributed to all Chamber members and several other businesses whom this new bylaw will affect.
“At this point, we are asking businesses to read the summary and review, in detail, any and all parts of the bylaw that apply directly to them and to voice any concerns to Chamber manager Dawn Booth or myself before the end of February,” Rogozinski noted.
Under the new bylaw, businesses that require licences will include taxi cabs, tow trucks, auctioneers, bowling alleys, restaurants, grocery stores, delis, electrical contractors and master electricians, plumbing contractors and master plumbers, drain layer contractor, other trade contractors or businesses, hairstyling salons, peddlers and vendors, bed and breakfasts, parking lots, and pawn shops.
This also includes all businesses that have their office outside of the town but do business—or work in—the Town of Fort Frances.
This bylaw is not applicable to a natural resource-based business, nor manufacturing or industrial businesses unless they sell their product retail or wholesale in the community.
