Safeway gas bar manager Andrea Turgeon announced last week that one lucky team in the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship will again win their tournament gas.
She also confirmed the contest rules will be the same as previous years. Teams that fill-up at Safeway during the three days of tournament competition will be entered in the draw to win up to $350.
There is one big difference this year. Instead of being on-hand to serve the many anglers Turgeon has gotten to know through the contest, she will be on the lake competing with them for the top prize of $50,000.
An active tournament angler, Turgeon entered the draw last October and was thrilled when she became part of the field as Team #120. Her partner is David Byrnes, who also is a very competent angler.
“My staff and I look forward to renewing friendships made last year and meeting the new teams fishing the [FFCBC] for the first time,” said Turgeon.
“We want to make the anglers feel really welcome, not only at our gas station and convenience store but also all around town,” she added.
“We know when the daily weigh-in ends,” Turgeon continued. “Within minutes, the parking lot is crowded with the biggest collection of vehicles pulling fantastic boats.
“It’s almost like the ‘Parade of Boats’ suddenly happened right on the store parking lot. We get to see some of the nicest fiberglass and aluminum boats right up close.”
But Turgeon said the best part is chatting with the anglers.
“Asking out how things went; where they are in the standings and whether they are competing for a cash prize or just hoping to finish in the Top 90 and qualify for next year,” she noted.
