The bidding already has begun on four silent auction items, including a boat, motor, and trailer package, that ultimately will be sold at the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship’s “Kick Bass” social next Saturday (May 13).
Organizers have lined up a package, sponsored by Pinewood Sports & Marine, Lund, and Mercury, which includes a 2006 Lund A boat (estimated value of $2,134), 2006 Mercury 9.9 hp motor ($2,841), and 2006 Shorelander SLB7TS trailer ($1,054).
As well, the same models of boat, motor, and trailer are being auctioned off separately.
Those wanting to make a bid can go either to the Fort Frances Times office or Pinewood Sports & Marine prior to the social, where the bidding will end just prior to midnight.
The bidding started at last weekend’s trade show.
“It’s a pretty good deal. You may get a pretty good buy,” FFCBC chairman Jim Cumming noted this morning.
The bid on the boat, motor, and trailer package already is up to around $4,000, though bidding on the individual items has been a little slow.
Cumming is hoping that will change in the coming week and on the night of the social.
He added the idea for the silent auction was thought up by the three sponsors as a means to help out the bass tourney, which hasn’t been able to get a lottery licence for its “Reel Raffle” since last year.
“We’re hoping the items will raise a considerable amount of money,” Cumming remarked, adding there are reserve bids on all of the items to ensure certain costs are covered.
Meanwhile, tickets for the “Kick Bass” social, which starts at 7 p.m. next Saturday on the Ice for Kids Arena ice surface, are on sale now at the Fort Frances Times, Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce office on Scott Street, the Emo Inn, and from any FFCBC director.
Tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
The social, which is restricted to age of majority, will feature live music by well-known local band “Thinking of Pinky.” There also will be free Tim Hortons coffee and popcorn.
“It should be some fun. We’ve got lots of door prizes to be given away,” noted Cumming, adding the silent auction aspect of the event only will add to the night’s proceedings.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards FFCBC event operations.
In related news, the bass tourney is looking for volunteers to help with this year’s event in July.
Those interested in getting involved can do so by calling 274-0316, contacting volunteer director Tara Albanese via e-mail (volunteers@canadianbass.com), or logging on to www.canadianbass.com
