Patrons of the Fort Frances Public Library now can manage their accounts online from home, thanks to a new system set up by the Town of Fort Frances.
“We’re really excited,” said head librarian Margaret Sedgwick.
The new system allows people to go online, sign in, and look at all the materials—books, CDs, DVDs, etc.—that they currently have signed out.
They can renew these items online with a click of the mouse—unless it is the day the item is due, it is overdue, or someone else has reserved the item.
The program also allows people to search the entire library catalogue and reserve materials of interest.
As well, many items have links to Amazon.com, where people can see the book cover and read a review.
Patrons also can look up their borrowing history.
“People should come in and create their personal login and password, and then they’re set to go,” Sedgwick noted.
The sign-up process takes only a minute, then people can go online and use the free service. Sedgwick also said people getting their first library card will be signed up for the service automatically from now on.
The project is one the town has been working on for some time—and one many patrons have been asking for.
“Some people were very excited to see this,” Sedgwick noted.
To search the library catalogue, go to fort-frances.com/library and choose “Catalogue” from the left-hand menu.
