All-Ontario berths will be on the line tomorrow as the Muskie boys’ and girls’ soccer teams host the Kenora Broncos and Dryden Eagles in the NWOSSAA ‘AA’ tournament.
Under the new system for high school soccer, schools now fall into one of three categories.
The district’s smaller schools compete in the ‘A’ division while mid-sized schools, including Fort High, compete in the ‘AA’ division. Schools in the Thunder Bay area compete in the ‘AAA’ division.
The winner of each division moves on to the provincial showdown.
Since there only are three schools in the ‘AA’ division, tomorrow’s tournament is structured so the top team during the regular season advances directly to the final.
The second-place team plays the third-place one in the semi-final for the right to meet the division winner.
The Muskie boys finished atop the standings in the regular season and so will play tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the final.
The Muskie girls, on the other hand, finished second in regular-season play so they will have to do a little extra work if they are to advance to the all-Ontarios.
The black-and-gold will face the Broncos at 10 a.m., with the winner advancing to meet the Eagles in the final at 3 p.m.
