MARILYN MAJOR

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and beloved friend to many; Marilyn Major, 67, of Rainy River First Nations passed away peacefully in her home on March 19, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born on June 12, 1954, in Atikokan, Ontario, where she held many jobs at various tourist camps in the summer months throughout the previous years in her younger life.

Marliyn was predeceased by her parents William Spoon of Seine River First Nation and Pearl Major of Rainy River First Nations. She was also predeceased by her brothers Melvin Spoon and Terry Spoon.

She is survived by her family; she was sister of Sandy Spoon and Josephine Spoon; mother of Cynthia, Maria, Kevin, Pamela and Kelly; mother-in-law of Jesse and Haley; grandmother of Jeremy, Stuart, Collin, Carmen, Carlo, Gavin, Candance, Jennifer, Michael, David, Angela, Cameron, Tashie, Natu, Xander, Marty, Billy, Chase, Caleb, Ciara, Hope, Zayah, Tameka, Malikey, Bella, Niisha, Kelaysia and Azalea; great-grandmother of Kaiden and Deliah.
Marilyn was passionate about gardening, cooking, sewing and making regalias for her many grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved very much and was a devoted caregiver to them as well.
A traditional wake was held Monday, March 21, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. at the Rainy River First Nations Gym, followed by a traditional service on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Interment followed in Rainy River First Nations Cemetery. Pallbearers were Marcel, Michael, David, Natu, Chase and Caleb.
