Well, I am feeling a tad bit overwhelmed today. There is plenty going on, not just for me but for many others. We are dealing with a severe drought and we are losing cow herd numbers daily. We have started to see hay come into the district, but this is short term help we still must figure up winter supply. I am really hoping we will have some details on this program yet this week. The Sales Barn build is going well but we have lots of work to do. Volunteers are needed so if you have any spare time at all please give Louis a call and he can assign you a task. At work, our winter wheat data is expected to be submitted this week and our spring cereals are ready to go. Then we have the Emo Fair and things just are not normal, so planning hasn’t been super easy. And to top that off Maddie and Marlee are double booked, and it is looking like they are choosing a super fun trip over the Fair. I am slightly disappointed and a little sad. They wanted black and white 4-H heifers which we purchased last fall and then for Christmas I got them all the “black showing supplies” but we won’t be needing them. I am not dealing well with my own farm. I need to make some decisions on what cows are leaving and how much hay I will need to buy for the winter. Think I am avoiding that big time!
Last week Soil & Crop organized a Crop Tour. It was poorly attended. I am hoping that next year we can return to a more normal environment and more people are willing to attend. I think covid and the drought is playing a big role in people’s state of mind. Katie, Taylor, and I have put together a virtual tour that we will be posting this week! Thankfully the girls could put the clips all together. I am not so good with this technical stuff. We are hoping to save it as a YouTube link, so it is easier to share.
If you are interested in exhibiting at the Fall Fair, you can find their modified entry list on their website. Just search “Rainy River Valley Ag Society.” You can download the book and see the schedule there. We have 25 4-H Steers to sale! We are having a live auction at 4:00 p.m. August 21st. It is a great chance to support our 4-H members and get on some local beef. You can find a friend and purchase together, or more than one friend! Please bring along a mask, we will be required to wear them when social distancing can’t be met.
A new category at the Emo Fair this year is a local honey class! The winning entry will be auctioned off following the steer auction! Please join in on this fun!!
