LORRAINE DERMAN

It is with great sadness that the family of Lorraine Derman announces her passing on Wednesday July 7, 2021 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont.

She was born on November 6, 1963 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Howard and Bakenawanqewabeak Willie. She grew up in the Seine River area, spending her summers at Mudge’s camp, the fall harvesting rice at Rat River and winters trapping. She attended Mine Centre School as a young girl finishing her high school while living in Peterborough. She returned to Northwest Ontario, attending Lakehead University and receiving her Teacher’s Diploma. She taught at St. Cloud University before returning to Ontario. She met Mark in Pickle Lake and they were married in 2008. They returned to the Rainy River District and she taught at the Fort Frances High School. She loved to read, play scrabble and watch her gameshows. She also enjoyed Bingo and trips to the casino.

Lorraine leaves behind her husband Mark; siblings Darlene Whitecrow (and her children Dawn, Thomas and Jacob), Sheldon Whitecrow, Ringo (Phyllis) Whitecrow (and their children R.J. and Hailey), Camille Whitecrow (and her children Dorion, Jeremiah, Phillip, Victoria, Fred Jr., Desirae, Jade, Howard and Clara); aunts Judy Bird, Celina (Norm) Whitecrow, Sue Ann (Rob) Whitecrow; and uncle Howard Whitecrow; as well as numerous cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; brothers-in-law John Cochrane, Frederick Ottertail; grandparents Irene and Joseph Whitecrow Sr. and Mary and Ackley Willie; as well as many aunts and uncles.

A traditional ceremony was held on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Seine River First Nation with an Elder from Naicatchewenin First nation. Interment took place in the Whitecrow Cemetery.

The pallbearers were her family and friends.
