It is with great sadness that the family of Deanna Harrison announces her passing on Monday June 21, 2021 after a long battle with liver and kidney disease.
As a young girl, Deanna spent much time with her godmother, Dorothy Boddy. Deanna lived in Peterborough, Ont. since 2001. She attended Trent University where she earned a certificate in Native Studies and graduated in 2008 with a BA with Honours in Indigenous Studies.
Deanna was a talented fabric artist. She loved designing and creating, sewing simple face masks to intricate quilts and stunning dresses. She volunteered in the community, such as helping in tax clinics to being a board member. She loved to travel the local powwow circuit in the summer and was recognized for her distinctive black and white fancy shawl regalia. She was also a member of Nogojiwanong Friendship Center, where she was often called upon to make frybread for many events.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Julienne Simard (Chris) and her children Isaac and Olivia; son Equix Fabian; siblings Renee Linklater, Cindy Perrault, Candace Perrault and Sabrina Perrault; aunts Judy Morrison, Evelyn Nelson and Lorna Cochrane. She had a special bond with cousin Trevor Nelson. Deanna will also be missed by her many other cousins and relatives including the Perrault family.
She will be greatly missed in Peterborough by her circle of friends and acquaintances, particularly her cousin Georgie Horton-Baptiste, whom she entrusted to care for her as her health began to decline.
Deanna was predeceased by her mother Mavis Perrault in 1984; stepfather Leslie Perrault in 2014; sister Stephanie Perrault in March of 2021; grandmother Eva Linklater; aunts Arlene Beaumont and Darlene Linklater; uncle Ken Linklater and cousin Jeremy Beaumont.
A visitation was held at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont. on Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
A traditional ceremony was held at the Nigigoonisiminikaaning First Nation Gymnasium on Sunday June 27, 2021 at 10 a.m. with Elder Ralph Johnson officiating. Deanna will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Couchiching First Nation with her mother Mavis.
The pallbearers will be Derrick Cochrane, Joe Cochrane, Alex Cochrane, Jacob Jones and Roger Allan.
