It’s a rescue device for a couple who’ve reached the breaking point. Call it what you will, growling stomach, the rumbly in my tumbly, the gallywobbles, it pushed Edna and Wally Trumpeter to the brink of marriage dissolution.
After 47 years, 7 children, 13 grandchildren and many happy times on their farm in Sleeman Ontario, Edna could take it no more. Wally’s incessant stomach noise had pushed her to the brink. It rumbled she said all day long.
“It doesn’t matter what he eats, when he eats or how much he eats, his tummy grumbles, even while he’s sleeping. Jimny Crickets,” said Edna. “We need a solution. I just can’t take the noise anymore.”
For his part Wally says he’s sympathetic, but hardly bothered himself.
“Really it ain’t bad, probably like a loud fart from time to time, heck I’m an old fart now anyhow, I expect it comes with the territory.”
The former CN engineer is so used to noise that neither the freight train track just 200 yards from their house or their pet rooster Clifford bother him a bit.
Edna on the other hand needed a solution. Enter Bernie Black from neighbouring Rainy River. Bernie’s one of the finest town mechanics and a bit of an innovator. He’s also a good friend of the family and he knows exactly what Edna’s speaking about. He’s been a guest at their house many times and admits to the stomach disturbance being unsettling.
“One time that belly scared the cat so bad it tore up Wally’s belly button pretty good looking for the enemy,” he said.
To protect him and save Edna’s sanity, Bernie designed the Monster Muffler. It’s really just three pillows sewn together with light lead layers added that offer incredible sound deadening.
Edna’s happy now and Wally doesn’t mind wearing the Monster Muffler. Both sleep through the night and when the cats hops up on the bed he’s pretty content too. While Bernie has no plans to market the Monster Muffler, he does seem to like the marriage counseling business and plans to offer a 15 minute session with each oil change beginning this summer.
