The cat colony is emptying thanks to Best for Kitty, but they need help
Feral cats have become a serious nuisance in many of our communities. You can be part of the problem by putting out food, encouraging cats to breed indiscriminately or, like the organization Best for Kitty, do something about it.
Best for Kitty is a recently renamed organization formerly known as Paws and Claws Canada. It is headquarted in Fort Frances, and is dedicated to “cat rescue” according to their Facebook page. “bestforkitty”. “With almost 30 cats saved and rehomed in our first four months of operation, we look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of the Rainy River District as we move forward as Best for Kitty”, says their Facebook post
“This is a privately funded group of private citizens who have donated to help cover the considerable expense that Best for Kitty incurs in its efforts. These wonderful individuals, couples and organizations have made financial donations to Best for Kitty since our inception in November 2020. We have now brought over 30 cats into care, most of which needed vaccines and to be spayed or neutered. Without generous donations like these, we could not continue to operate. Please consider adopting or fostering a cat or kitten from best for Kitty”, says their Facebook page
Again from a recent Best for Kitty post, “We are very pleased to announce that we have removed the last unspayed female from the Rainy River cat colony. We now have numerous cats from the colony in our care. Some of them will be suitable as house pets after a period of socialization. Others however, have spent so much time without human contact that they are unlikely to ever exist comfortably in a home. We do feel that these cats deserve to live a full life either as indoor/outdoor cats or as barn cats. Their “forever home” would have to be on a farm or in a rural area well outside of any town. If you think you could help provide one of these cats a place to live out their lives, please contact us. These cats will be offered at a drastically reduced adoption fee and will come fully vetted including spay or neuter.”
