Rainy River District Festival for the Performing Arts has gone virtual for 2021. This year there will be no fees, adjudication or presentation of awards. Performances must be video recorded and submitted by April 7, 2021 to be posted to a Youtube channel. Please submit your “Intention to enter a video” form by tomorrow, Friday March 5th. The Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship is making tentative plans to return to a modified version of the tournament this summer and is looking to gauge interest from teams. Weechi-it-te-win Family Services is hosting a virtual Pow Wow, the week of March 15-19. Registration deadline is March 10 at noon. Rainy Lake Nordic Ski Club is available for skiing and walking/snowshoeing while weather permits. In order to comply with COVID guidelines the chalet is open only for people accessing rental gear. Face masks must be worn in the chalet (no substitutes please) and users must social distance. No gatherings or parties allowed. Get outside and get some exercise! Anishinaabemodaa – Waking up Ojibwe – is a partnership between Seven Generations Institute, SayitFirst and the Rainy River District School Board. Their Facebook page posts videos and other resources to give First Nations kids, a way to hear and learn their own language.

Volunteer opportunities
Best for Kitty, previously known as Paws and Claws Canada is in desperate need of foster homes. They are currently unable to take in all the cats and kittens in need of care, due to a foster home shortage. For more information on what’s involved, or to volunteer, e-mail bestforkitty@gmail.com.
