On the prowl

bob saunders wolf1

It’s a rare, but beautiful, sight to be sure. Bob Saunders captured this shot of a pair of wolves on his trail camera as they made their way to who knows where in the district. There are two species of wolves in Ontario, the larger grey wolf (Canis lupus) and the smaller eastern wolf (Canis lupus lycaon), but there’s also more than a little interbreeding going on between those species and coyotes. According to Wolves Ontario, it’s even gotten to the point where eastern wolves and eastern coyotes can’t be told apart without using a genetic test.
