Arrest made in rash of cabin robberies

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – Police have made n arrest in multiple cabin break and enters, which too place between mid-May and mid-November 2020. The crimes took place in the Big Sawbill Lake Road area as well as the Red Gut Bay area on Rainy Lake. It is believed that the break and enters are connected.

Members of the Rainy River District Crime Unit, Northwest Region (NWR) Forensic Identification Service (FIS), NWR Emergency Response Team (ERT), and NWR Canine have been supporting the investigation.

As a result, a 41 year old Fort Frances man has been charged with the following offences:

1 count of careless storage of a firearm;
2 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm;
3 counts of possession of prohibited device or ammunition;
6 counts of possess firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order;
2 counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00;
4 counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00;
1 count of assault;
1 count of possession of a controlled substance – heroin;
3 counts of failure to comply with release order; and
1 count of point firearm

A more recent investigation since December 2020 have resulted in the following charges: 

2 counts of Fail to comply with release order;
3 counts of Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00;
1 count of Possession of Heroin;
2 counts of possession of prohibited device or ammunition;
1 count of possession of break-in tools; and
1 count of assault police officer.

The accused is currently held for bail
