Vaccine rollout begins

Press Release

Riverside Health Care is pleased to announce that commencing this week we will be administering the first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to long-term care (LTC) residents in our facilities.

As part of Phase One of Ontario’s three-phase vaccine implementation plan Riverside’s LTC residents at Rainycrest who have completed consents will begin to receive vaccines tomorrow, Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Residents at Emo Health Centre and Rainy River Health Centre will be receiving vaccines on Thursday, January 28, 2021. We will receive a limited number of vaccines, meaning that not all residents will receive their vaccine at this time. We are eagerly awaiting news of the next shipment of vaccines for the balance of residents and to initiate vaccination of our long-term care staff.

“The last year has meant unprecedented challenges for so many, including residents of long-term care homes. The beginning of our vaccine roll out is a milestone event, not only for Riverside but for the entire district.” said Henry Gauthier, Riverside’s President & Chief Executive Officer. “As we remain focused on our evidence-based and equitable approach response to the COVID-19 pandemic we continue to urge all district residents to remain vigilant. We still need to mask, wash our hands, physically distance, and avoid in-person gatherings. Everyone has a role to play in keeping our communities safe.”

The order by which residents will receive the vaccine is based on the Ministry of Health COVID-19 vaccine prioritization plan. The vaccine plan ensures those most at risk are first in line to receive the vaccine.
