It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Tkachuk announces her sudden passing on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont.
She was born on Jan. 7, 1930 in Barwick, Ont.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Mike Gurniak and together they settled down to raise their nine children. After his passing, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Tkachuk.
Dorothy worked as a home support worker for many years before retiring. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as taking trips to Warroad and attending Bingo.
She spent the last five years in Rainycrest, where she enjoyed the people and the activities, especially the dances.
Dorothy leaves behind her children, Roxanne Dustin, Micheline (Harvey) Vien, Gail McTavish, Joan Ronmark (Bob Crawford), and Rob Gurniak (Missy), all of Fort Frances, Ont., and Dwayne Gurniak and David Gurniak of Winnipeg, Man.; stepson, Bob Tkachuk (Mary-Beth) of Fort Frances, Ont.; as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Arnold and Dora Blom; husbands, Mike Gurniak and Lawrence Tkachuk; sons, Stanley and Douglas Gurniak; sons-in-law, Rick Ronmark, John Dustin, and Ed McTavish; and sisters, Clara and Margaret.
A celebration of life for Dorothy will be held Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Hallett Hall at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of Dorothy’s grandchildren.
