Sadly, the family announces the passing of Dan Furyk, 78, of Rainy River, Ont., on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Rainy River Health Centre.
Dan was born on July 25, 1938 in Chapleau, Ont. to William and Marie (Tiboni) Furyk.
He moved the Coldwell, Ont. and was raised by his grandparents, Maria and Pietro Tiboni.
At the age of 15, he joined the Trans-Canada Highway 17 construction project. Then at the age of 20, he moved to Leamington, Ont. and worked for the Ford Motor Company.
In the late 1970s, he married Arlene Hooper and helped raise her daughter, Kimberly Halverson (nee Alward).
He also worked for the Town of Rainy River and was the volunteer fire chief for several years.
Dan enjoyed working as a fishing guide on Lake of the Woods after his retirement, where he taught his grandsons, Joshua, Jacob, and Joseph Halverson, the joys of fishing and hunting. They were–and will–remain his pride and joy. They were his strength during his final struggle with cancer over the past few months.
He always and forever will remain in all of our hearts.
Dan is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Paul) Halverson of Rainy River, Ont.; and sons, Bill (Connie) Hooper and Ronald (Kim) Hooper, and daughter-in-law, Sharon (late Michael Hooper), all of Windsor, Ont.
Dan will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Joseph, Amber, Ashley, Brad, Mike, Billy, Sherrilynn, Crystal, and Ashley; and great-grandchildren, Kayden, Kylie, Jace, and Nolan.
Dan also is survived by his sister, Carla (Ludger) Rittau of Burriss, Ont.; niece, Tiffany (Jon) Potson and great-niece, Sophia (who always made Dan smile); and brothers, Roy Bertin (Joanne) of B.C. and Kevin Bertin (Yvonne) of Vegreville, Alta.
Dan was predeceased by his wife, Arlene (2016); son, Michael; and his parents, Marie and William Furyk.
As per Dan’s wishes, no funeral service will take place.
