LILLIAN ETHEL HOCKENSON

Lillian Hockenson passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont., her home for the last nine years.
She recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded with the love of family and friends.
She was born on Oct. 22, 1916 in Crozier, Ont. to the late Elias and Annie Jarvi. She was the youngest of four daughters and all of her sisters, Emily, Flora, and Hilda, predeceased her.
Lillian lived in a log home built by her father and attended school in Miscampbell before settling in Fort Frances, where she lived the rest of her life.
She married Ernest Hockenson on Christmas Eve in 1938 at the Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls, Mn. He predeceased her in 1994.
She also was predeceased by her loving daughter, Mamie, and son-in-law, Eugene (Shorty) Leggett; and dear sister-in-law, Ingeborg, and brother-in-law, Anton Halverson.
Lillian loved telling stories of her life on the farm. She was a wonderful homemaker, and family and friends enjoyed her delicious baking and cooking. There always was a cup of coffee and plate of goodies for her visitors.
She also enjoyed tending to her beautiful gardens and taking care of her beloved pets. Many strays benefited from food and shelter by wandering into her yard.
She was a wonderful Gram/Auntie who made each of her grandchildren feel loved and special when they spent time with her.
Lillian was a gentle spirit who always will be remembered by family and friends for her warm smile, generous heart, and kindness to all.
She will be fondly remembered by daughter, Nancy, and special son-in-law, Dale Krueger, of International Falls, Mn.
Gram also will be missed by her grandson, Michael (Christine) Krueger, and granddaughter, Linda (Joey) Kawulia, all of Fort Frances, Ont. Also surviving are great-granddaughters, Lauren (Adam) and Morgan (Corey); great-grandson, Wesley (Naomi); and great-great-grandsons, Chandler and Drake.
She was special “Auntie” to grandchildren, Robert (Carol) Leggett, Bert Leggett, Sandy (Chuck) LeMoine, and Brenda (George) Leggett and their families.
She also is survived by nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Green Funearl Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. MJ D. Leewis-Kirk, AOJN, officiating.
