The family sadly announces the passing of Fernande (Fern) Marie Larocque, of Rainy River, Ont., on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at the Rainy River Health Centre.
Fern was born May 5, 1927 to Ernest and Jeanne Larocque in Pinewood, Ont.
At a young age, she chose to join the Sisters of St. Joseph in St. Hyacinthe, Que. She left the order after 16 years and began her nursing career in 1967, retiring from La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. in 1985.
She enjoyed her retirement in the French community of St. Malo, Man. for several years, returning home to Rainy River for her final years near her family.
Fern is survived by her sisters, Aline Schuschke, Lorraine Beaudry (Rosaire), Lina Siwak (Lawrence), Yolande Pecz (Albert), and Angele White; brothers, Robert (Darlene) and Noel (Elaine); sister-in-law Beulah Larocque, brothers-in-law, Lazare Fouillard, Alex Fouillard, and Jim Donnelly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Jeanne; sisters, Florise (Felix), Estelle (Allan), Rhea, Claire, Jeannine, and Marie (Harold); and brother, Roland.
A funeral mass was held Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Church in Pinewood, with Fr. Allan Lapay celebrant.
Interment followed at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Cemetery.
