Clayton Hugh Desrosieres, 57, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully, with his loved ones by his side, on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center shortly after his diagnosis of terminal cancer.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Couchiching First Nation, with Fr. Alan Albao officiating.
A luncheon followed the service at the church.
Clayton was born on July 8, 1959 in Fort Frances to Augustine Desrosieres and Isabelle Desrosieres (nee Morrisseau).
He attended St. Mary’s Separate School and Fort Frances High School. He later graduated from Confederation College with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology in 1979.
Clayton worked for Honeywell Measurex as a customer service rep from 1979 until 1982.
He also served with the 116 Independent Field Artillery, RCA based out of Kenora, Ont. He was a proud member of the team that won the TE Eaton cup, a nationwide military skills competition, in 1976.
He enjoyed troubleshooting computers and always was there to help with fixing a computer.
Clayton was a devoted traditional Roman Catholic. He also loved fishing and camping with his nephews and nieces. He was a very active presence in their lives, providing fatherly advice and spending a lot of time taking them to various activities.
His friends knew him for his quick wit and sense of humour.
Clayton was predeceased by his parents, Augustine and Isabelle Desrosieres; brother, Ronald Desrosieres; sisters, Karla and Michelle Desrosieres; and step-brother, Marvin Mainville.
Clayton is survived by his fiancée, Rebecca Goretzki; step-daughters, Samantha and Amie; sister, Marcella; and brothers, Kenneth (Kitty) and Patrick (wife, Anchalee and nieces, Potchawan and Masita) of Trenton, Ill.
His nephews and other nieces include Joe Desrosieres, (Darien, Macaylah, and Alora), Jessica Desrosieres (Larissa), and Catherine Hubbard of Thunder Bay, and Angela (Reece, Lennix, Aleigha, and Thierry), Catie Warren, Dylan Warren, Christina Chute (Marie and Angel), and Raquel Desrosieres; and special granddaughter, Karla.
Interment took place in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery.
The honourary pallbearers were Richard Shultz, Norman Girard, Paul Nobel, and Greg Bird.
