WILLIAM JOHN (BILL) FOSTEY

Bill Fostey, 86, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances.
He was born Oct. 11, 1929 in Fort Frances to John and Annie Fostey.
As a young man, Bill joined the local paper mill, working there for more than 42 years and rising to the position of Stores Supervisor until his retirement in 1989.
Bill was united in marriage to the love of his live and high school sweetheart, Ruth Paget, on July 17, 1950 and together they raised two children, Jane and John.
They spent many seasons building their cabin at Bears Pass and enjoying the outdoors there.
After their retirement, Bill and Ruth enjoyed several trips together to places that interested them historically and culturally. They also enjoyed hosting holiday and special occasion events at the home they had built together, which was inspired by their travels.
After Ruth’s passing, Bill’s convertible gave him much enjoyment, as did his many trips to Illinois to visit his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Trips in his car, long or short, were times for him to relax, enjoy some music, and watch the scenery go by.
Bill was an active lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He served in several important positions and earned his 4th Degree.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Annie; wife, Ruth, on March 4, 1998; and sisters, Helen Coran and Bernice Shine.
He leaves behind his son, John (Wendy) Fostey of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. and daughter, Jane (Dwayne) Colvin of Wayne City, Ill.; grandchildren, Beth Clugston, Sarah Hershberger, Matthew Colvin, Joanna High, Jesse Colvin, and Eric Fostey; and 20 great-grandchildren.
In his final years, his special friends were Gerry and Jackie Guimond and his Flinders Avenue neighbours, Terry and Heather Krawchuk.
A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Alan Albano officiating.
Cremation has taken place and interment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
An Honour Guard will be provided by the Knights of Columbus.
