Walter Henry Cunningham, 78, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Walter was born in Clinton, Ont. on Dec. 18, 1937 to Guy and Margaret Cunningham. He was raised on the family farm in Hullett Township, Ont.
Walter was married on Sept. 3, 1960 to Donna Walden at Westfield, Ont. He served for a time as a police officer in London, Ont. before purchasing a farm back in Hullett Township.
Walter and Donna farmed together and raised their family until Donna passed away in 1973.
Sometime later, Walter was blessed by meeting Eunice Hoy and they subsequently were married on June 28, 1974.
He supplemented the farm income by working at the salt mine in Goderich, Ont. for a while, then eventually sold the farm and moved west to Rainy River District to purchase a farm near Emo, Ont.
A few years later, they moved to Fort Frances, where he transitioned into a building moving and construction business. He also spent many years selling farm seeds and products around Northwestern Ontario, and worked for a time as a realtor.
He loved the Lord and enjoyed fellowshipping at his church, as well as spending time with family and friends. He also loved to travel and spending time out on the lake, preferably fishing.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, Guy and Margaret; first wife, Donna; brother, Thomas; and brothers-in-law, Carmen Gross and Garth Walden and Garth’s wife, Dianne.
Walter is survived by his wife, Eunice; sons, Kelly (Tanya) and Rodney (Sara Fay); as well as grandchildren, Daniel, Rachel, Hannah, and Andrew.
He also is survived by his sisters, Christena Gross and Eileen (Lloyd) McClinchey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ila Cunningham, Earl Hoy, Paul (Ruth) Hoy, Diana (Eric) Neilsen, John (Phyllis) Hoy, Gary (Rachel) Walden, Brian (Bev) Walden, and Linda Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 at Auburn Missionary Church.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m.
Interment will take place at Hope Chapel Cemetery after the service.
A luncheon will be served back at Auburn Missionary Church.
A memorial service in Fort Frances will be announced at a later date.
