It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Jane Allen announces her passing on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Mary Jane was born Nov. 2, 1961 in Portage LaPrairie, Man. to Agnes and Valentine Nepinak. She was raised in Pine Creek, Man. before the family moved to Winnipeg, Man.
In 1990, she came to Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation for a dance, met the love of her life, Harvey, and never left. They were married on Aug. 24, 1991.
Mary Jane loved helping people and this carried her into a career in health care. She worked as a community help representative, and was health director at Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation. She also spent several years with Rainy River District Services.
Mary Jane was an excellent communicator and story-teller. She also loved travelling, especially road trips.
She leaves behind her husband, Harvey; foster children, Candace Perrault and her children, Breanna, Noah, and Jacob, and Cheryl Perrault (Vernon Smith) and her children, Justin, Shaylene, Santino, Daishea, Frankie, Talia, and Theodore; sons, Leslie Allen and Thomas Allen; sisters, Linda Blomme, Sharon MacIntyre, and Joanne Szabo; brothers, Clarence Nepinak (Barbara) and Reg Nepinak (Caroline), and goddaughter, Terri Lynn Gillespie.
Mary Jane also will be fondly remembered by her numerous nieces and nephews and the Allen family.
She was predeceased by her father, Eugene, and mother, Agnes; brother, Wally Nepinak; sister, Marlene Nepinak; and nephew Patrick Scribe.
A traditional wake will be held in the evening of Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation multi-use facility.
A traditional funeral service will be held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation multi-use facility with Elder Anton Truer.
Interment will take place in the Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Scott MacIntyre, Sterling MacIntyre, David Allen, Cameron Allen, Ryan Caul, Vernon Smith, Alex Morrisseau, and Charles Blomme.
