Sadly, the family announces the sudden passing of Darryl Lee Horton, 32, of Rainy River First Nations, on Friday, March 18, 2016 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Darryl was born Jan. 9, 1984 to Robert and Berla Horton.
He spent his childhood surrounded by his family and friends on Manitou Rapids, playing sports such as hockey, baseball, and taekwondo, going on numerous camping trips with friends, and travelling the pow-wow trail with his family.
Darryl took great pride in being an uncle to his nieces and nephews, taking them skating in the winter and playing sports with them in the summer.
He also enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, and loved to make people laugh with his outgoing sense of humour.
Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Darryl would agree that he always was willing to lend a helping hand and share one of his many stories.
Darryl will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his mother, Berla; siblings, Marcel (Lisa), Derek (Laura), Tammy (Kevin), Heather, Jon Medicine, Curtis Medicine, and Kristi Medicine; uncles, Joe Medicine and Vernon Horton; aunt, Liza Medicine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Darryl was predeceased by his father, Robert Horton; uncles, Eddie Medicine and Gaylord Horton; aunt, Angel Medicine; and his close friend, Benny Brown.
A traditional wake was held Monday, March 21, 2016 from 5 p.m. at the Rainy River First Nations gymnasium.
The funeral service followed there on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
Interment took place in the family plot on Rainy River First Nations.
The pallbearers were Mitchell Mosher, Robert Morrison, Jon Medicine, Alton Brown, Fabian Bird, and Cal Bombay.
The honourary pallbearers were his best friends, Steve Leonard, Doug Horton, Joe Medicine, and Vernon Horton.
