Douglas Wayne Mitchell passed away, with his family at his side, on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
Douglas was born to George and Laura Mitchell on Dec. 17, 1940. He was the last baby to be born at the McKenzie Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Douglas was married to Darlene Parker on Nov. 9, 1959. They spent 56 years of marriage together and raised three children, Sheryl (Buddy) Hyatt of Kenora, Ont., and Brian (Mary) and Lori (Bob) Green.
He was very proud of his grandchildren, Morgan (Chantel) Hyatt of Wainfleet, Ont., Meaghan (Kevin) Waldock of Woodville Ont., Mitchell, Morey, and Britton Green (Sarah Glover), and Jessica and Emily Mitchell; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Hayden, and Eastin Waldock, and Marshal Hyatt.
The other special people in Doug’s life were Ray and Sue Cameron, Diane and Ron Schindel, and Bonnie and Lloyd Williams.
Doug lived his life to the fullest, being an avid outdoorsman. He loved to share his knowledge of conservation of fishing and hunting to his children and grandchildren.
Doug would take Darlene to those secret fishing spots, where they would catch their limit and brag about it. They were always on an adventure.
He also loved to work with wood, creating items to sell and give to his children.
At his request, a celebration of Doug’s life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 from 1-4 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances.
He asked for friends to share memories with his family.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Riverside Foundation for Health Care, the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club, or a charity of your choice c/o Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
