The family of Edith Lillian Richert (nee Wood) sadly announces her passing on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at the age of 87.
Edith was born on Feb. 1, 1928 to Nathan and Amy Wood.
She married Henry Richert on April 11, 1947 and together they raised their family of five children in Fort Frances, Ont.
Edith enjoyed the outdoors in her earlier years, and she and Henry spent much of their time gardening, fishing, camping, and spending endless hours in their gazebo.
Edith enjoyed the company of family and friends. She had a quick sense of humour until the very end.
Edith was predeceased by her parents; husband, Henry; daughter, Darleen Derkson; son-in-law, Michael Dokuchie; granddaughter, Tara Richert; great-granddaughter, Samantha Enge; and siblings, Robert Wood, Arthur Wood, and Helen Desaulniers.
She is survived by her children, Allen of Thunder Bay, Ont. William (Dana) of Freemont, Neb., Joe (Linda) of Fort Frances, Ont., and Debbie Dokuchie of Dryden, Ont.; grandchildren, Jennifer Hache (Steve), Allison Anderson (Derek), Andrew Richert (Alana), Bobbi Derkson (Dennis), Jonathon Derkson, Tena Enge (Travis), Jolene Richert (Rich), Miranda Richert (Josh), Lane Richert, Brayton Richert, Dallas Hogan, Aimee Turpin, Joshua Dokuchie (Terri), and Matthew Dokuchie (Meaghan); as well as numerous great-grandchildren, many of whom fondly referred to her as Grandma Femur.
Edith also leaves behind Lou Richert; one sister, Alice Shurvell; sister-in-law, Ann Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
