Sadly, the family announces the passing of Joanne Lorraine Landry (nee Wilkins), 67, of Barwick, Ont., on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Joanne was born July 11, 1948 in Sioux Lookout, Ont. to Stanley and Elizabeth Wilkins.
She was united in marriage to Peter Landry on March 19, 1966 in Atikokan, Ont.
They moved to Dunblane, Sask., where Peter found work on the South Saskatchewan dam, then later moved to Ear Falls, Ont. and then on to Ignace, Ont., where they remained for 25 years.
In 1998, they moved to Barwick.
Joanne was a past member of the Ear Falls Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary. She loved to sew and knit until her deteriorating health made the most simple tasks in life no longer manageable.
Joanne also was known for her generosity of spirit and magic touch in the kitchen. She mastered every skill and craft that she set her mind to, and they were many.
She also will be fondly remembered for her extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers.
Joanne and Peter were greatly anticipating their 50th anniversary in March, 2016.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Peter; siblings, Stanley “Art” Wilkins of St. Catharines, Ont., Robert (Dela) Wilkins of Victoria, B.C., Sherrie Richet of Kamloops, B.C., and Kimber Wilkins of Port Weller, Ont.
She also is survived by her brother-in-law, Tom Landry (Wendy); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Elizabeth Wilkins; sisters, Frances Brendeland and Kathy Embury; brother-in-law, Blaine Landry; and father- and mother-in-law, Hector and Irene Landry.
Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 28, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont.
The funeral service will be held there Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 at 1 p.m., with Pastor Owen Martin officiating.
Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Emo.
Interment will take place in the Barwick Cemetery at a later date.
The pallbearers will be Robert Wilkins, Josh Landry, Jason Landry, Scott Landry, John Quint, and Ross Mackey.
