It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert (“Bob”) James Pollard on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015 at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Bob was born on April 11, 1934 in Pinewood, Ont. to Arthur and Ida Pollard.
He worked at McVey’s Garage and Fort Frances Motor Products as a mechanic until 1966. He moved to Thompson, Man. but later returned to Fort Frances, Ont., where he worked at the pulp and paper mill vas a millwright.
In 1992, he was awarded Labour Person of the Year by the Fort Frances Labour Council.
Upon his retirement in 1996, Bob was singled out for special recognition by GLR Robert Biggar and presented with a plaque to honour his record as the longest-serving president of IAM Local Lodge 771
Bob is survived by his wife, Alice; son, Guy (Dana); sister, Shelby (Larry) Benoit; nephew, Lanny (Lori) Benoit and several nieces and nephews; step-children, Wendy (Ron), Burdella (Doug), Brenda, Pam, Blake, and Todd (Tanya); son-in-law, Dwayne Dewar; grandchildren, Sabrina (Donavan), David, Dylan, Hannah, Brent, Jamie, Allison (Tom), Cory, Nicholas (Sara), Justin, Kyle, Michael, Daniel (Robin), Tyler (Sharon), Paige, Courtney, Carver, and Bricyn; and great-grandchildren, Kolton, Alec, Kara, Gabi, Anna, Eliza, and Makayla.
He also is survived by his sisters-in-law, Joyce Zub, Hazel Strain, and Lorraine Panset, brothers-in-law, Gary (Mary) Thesenvitz and Dayton (Doris) Thesenvitz; and his very best friends, Edgar and Verna Prive.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Ida Pollard; his first wife, Muriel Jeanne Pollard (Thesenvitz); son, Derek; daughter, Rhonda Dewar; brother, Murray and his wife, Margaret Pollard; brothers-in-law, Roy Zub and Walter Strain; and grandson, Justin Enge.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances, with Pastor Brian Keffer officiating.
Interment will take place at the Lady Frances Columbarium at the Fort Frances Cemetery in Fort Frances.
